Abstract
Open peer commentary on the article “Constructivism, Fast Thinking, Heuristics and Sustainable Development” by Hugh Gash. Abstract: Hugh Gash’s target article is characterized as an attempt to free sustainable-development discourse from its preoccupation with naïve realism. While this is, even today, an honorable and justifiable endeavor, some shortcomings in the diagnosis of the sustainable-development (SD) discourse are highlighted. SD suffers mainly from the strength of counteracting forces - ranging from economic to political to lifestyle drivers or inertia. Suggesting a reflection upon subjective constructions of SD and pledging for political compromises cannot address the problem. The re-construction of constructivism might help.
