Bio Note: Andrey S. Druzhinin is MGIMO Associate Professor, PhD in linguistics. He teaches both professional and general English to students on all university levels. The scope of his research interests includes the study of language in experiential dynamics with the help of explanatory rather than descriptive models of its phenomena. Since 2011, he has been working on a coherent cognitive model of counterfactuals, focusing on the attentional and thought processes behind counterfactual operating. He believes that linguistics, especially in its traditional mainstream understanding, is made by and for linguists, therefore, enclosed in its own domain of “useless fictions.” And unless we change the research priorities, it will continue to serve the purpose of such fictional rationalization of what comes as natural experience.
