Bio Note: Bruce Edmonds is professor of social simulation at the Manchester Metropolitan University and Director of the Centre for Policy there. His first degree was in mathematics at Oxford, where he studied abstract formal systems such as computability, abstract set theory, and category theory. This was followed much later by his PhD in the philosophy of science at the University of Manchester on the meaning and definition of complexity. Since 1994 he has been doing social simulation, which is a mixture of sociology and distributed AI. In 2013 he published the first handbook in the field, coedited with his colleague Ruth Meyer, entitled Simulating Social Complexity: A Handbook. For more about him see http://cfpm.org/~bruce.
